Coding Agents/CodeRabbit

CodeRabbit

by CodeRabbit

agentactivefreemium

An automated code review agent that triggers on every pull request, generating plain-English walkthroughs, sequence diagrams, and line-level bug and security findings across GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket.

CodeRabbit addresses the quality gap created by AI-generated code: as vibe coding tools produce more code faster, the volume of PRs that need review has grown beyond what human reviewers can handle. CodeRabbit installs as a GitHub/GitLab app and automatically reviews every pull request the moment it opens — generating a readable summary, sequence diagrams of code flow changes, and line-level comments on bugs, security vulnerabilities, and performance issues.

Key capabilities

Codebase-aware review — CodeRabbit builds a "codegraph" of the repository, understanding cross-file dependencies rather than analysing the diff in isolation. A change to a function that is called in 40 other files triggers awareness of the downstream impact, not just the edited lines.

Learnable review preferences — Teams provide natural-language feedback ("don't flag this pattern, we do it intentionally") and CodeRabbit creates persistent "learnings" that suppress false positives in future reviews. The agent adapts to team conventions over time.

CodeRabbit Agent and Plan — Pro Plus unlocks agentic capabilities: the agent can investigate issues autonomously via Slack triggers, and CodeRabbit Plan transforms Jira/Linear tickets or PRDs into structured Coding Plans that are handed off to coding agents like Claude Code or Codex CLI.

Platform breadth — The only AI code review tool supporting GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket, plus VS Code and Cursor IDE extensions for inline review.

Autonomy level

Level 3 — Supervised agent. Review and analysis runs autonomously on every PR. Agentic fix generation (Pro Plus) requires explicit invocation; all proposed changes require human approval before merge.

Strengths

  • 6M+ repositories connected and 15K+ customers validate strong product-market fit
  • Free tier covers unlimited public and private repos with no credit card required
  • $60M Series B at $550M valuation (September 2025)
  • Widest platform support: GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, VS Code, Cursor
  • SOC 2 Type II certified; zero data retention post-review

Limitations

  • Primarily a review tool — does not write or implement code autonomously
  • Unit test generation and merge conflict resolution require Pro Plus tier ($48/user/mo)
  • Per-seat pricing can become expensive for large engineering teams
  • No self-hosting option; SaaS-only deployment
