Mistral AI announced a 3 billion euro Series D funding round at a post-money valuation of more than 21 billion euros. Samsung Electronics led the round, with the Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT) and PSG Equity as co-leads. New investors included Advent, funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg; existing investors named include a16z, ASML, Bpifrance, General Catalyst, Index Ventures, Lightspeed, NVIDIA and Salesforce Ventures, among others. Mistral says the money goes to frontier research, compute capacity for training, infrastructure, and commercial and international expansion. It says it operates in 20 countries and supports more than 125 global enterprises, naming Airbus, ASML and HSBC.
Samsung published its side of the deal on September 8, 2026, announced in Paris during the South Korea-France state summit. Samsung confirmed it led Mistral's Series D and said it will integrate Mistral's services, including Mistral Large, across its semiconductor operations to build customized on-premises models for chip design and manufacturing: defect detection, equipment optimization and yield stabilization for advanced memory and logic chips.
The round pairs capital with a strategic customer. Mistral has pitched itself as the sovereign, open-weight alternative to US frontier labs, and its framing here is that governments and enterprises now ask how to use AI "without surrendering control." Samsung's investment gives Mistral a large industrial buyer whose on-premises, data-sensitive use case fits that pitch closely.
The amount, valuation and investor list come from Mistral's announcement, which carries no date on the page; the September 8 date comes from Samsung's dated release, which confirms the Series D lead but does not state the amount or valuation. Mistral's customer and country counts are its own figures.
