NVIDIA announced from Melbourne on September 9, 2026 a collaboration with Australian NVIDIA Cloud Partners and AI infrastructure providers to expand capacity for NVIDIA DSX AI factories, supporting up to a 2-gigawatt buildout by 2027. Partners named are Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk.
The release lists the pieces. Sharon AI is deploying up to 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs connected with NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand. IREN's development portfolio includes an 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia. Firmus is expanding its Project Southgate AI factories across Australia and Asia-Pacific. CDC operates more than 550 megawatts across Australia and New Zealand with 800 megawatts under construction, NEXTDC is developing liquid-cooled high-density infrastructure, and AirTrunk is expanding AI-ready powered shells. NVIDIA also points to Nemotron open models and names Heidi and Atlassian as organizations building applications.
This fits NVIDIA's pattern of country-level "AI factory" announcements that gather local operators under one national banner. For Australia, with plentiful land and energy, it signals intent to host sovereign and regional AI compute rather than rely on US and Asian data centers.
The 2-gigawatt figure is an "up to" target by 2027 summed across independent partners, not a single project or a committed order, and the release discloses no dollar amounts. Individual partner figures are those companies' own plans.
