Car Mode: hands-free on the road

4 min read

Car Mode runs your whole fleet by voice - eyes free, hands free, phone in a pocket or a dash mount. Where Voice Mode narrates one session, Car Mode is a two-way conversation with an assistant that knows every session on every machine: ask what needs you, send an answer to a session, start new work, all while driving.

The conversation loop

  1. Start

Open Car Mode from the roster or the menu and tap Start Car Mode. The screen stays awake and the assistant warms up so answers come fast.

  2. Talk, then say 'over and out'

Speak your command and end with the sign-off phrase - by default "over and out" - and the turn sends itself, no touch needed. A live level meter shows the mic is hearing you; you can also tap the Over and out button instead of saying it.

  3. Listen

A soft water-drop sound means the assistant took the turn; it answers out loud in a sentence or two. While it speaks the microphone is fully released - tap Stop if you want to cut it off. A double-blip means the mic is yours again.

  4. Done

Tap End Car Mode to stop cleanly, or Exit to leave the screen.

What you can ask it to do

The assistant is a fleet manager: it can list your sessions and what state they are in, read out what a session has been doing, start a new session, send a message or an approval into a session, and remove one. It refers to sessions by name and repo - never by numbers - and it keeps the thread of the conversation, so "approve the latest one" works. Ordinary questions get a direct answer without touching the fleet.

Warning
Destructive actions are gated by voice: before deleting a session the assistant states exactly what it is about to remove and waits for you to say "confirm". Any hesitation - "no", "cancel", "wait", or a mixed answer - cancels. An accidental word never kills a session.

Built for the car

  • Every voice control has a touch twin (Over and out, Stop, End Car Mode), so a noisy cab never strands you.
  • Failures are spoken out loud as well as shown - nothing stalls silently while your eyes are on the road.
  • The sign-off phrase is configurable on your Gateway if "over and out" is not your style.
  • The assistant stays warm only while Car Mode is open - it spends credits when you use it, not around the clock.
  • Car Mode needs Chrome or another Chromium browser for its hands-free audio; the screen tells you if the browser cannot do it.
Note
Which model answers is set on the AI settings screen (the Car Mode model) - a fast model keeps the conversation snappy.
